The Locked Room

Four new one-act plays around our theme, The Locked Room.

12 – 14 October 2017   |   ACANTEEN, Chelmsford

Performances at 7.45pm   |   Tickets £10

The return of Mad Apple Collective to ACANTEEN for our third residency following the run-away success of Awkward and Reunion!

Following our open submission window, we are proud to confirm that the evening will be made up of the following brilliant pieces:

Daisy Bell by Richard Fitchett

Two women, two exercise bikes, one room. They exchange banter and encourage each other as they cycle, following the ride from London to Brighton and back on a screen. Each turn of the wheel takes them further along the route but why must they complete the ride? And then repeat it the next day and the day after? And why are they locked inside the room?

Desideratum by Richard Dawes

A faceless future awaits a once dead woman who is brutally awoken into a society she cannot comprehend. A society which does not recognise her existence. Many questions will be asked of her. Does she possess the answers to keep herself alive?

At Lifes Door by Hedva Anbar

The World of the Living was created by a team of incompetents with unfortunate consequences for the World of the Dead. One brave soul is prepared to have a go at putting things right.

Howard Peabody: Guardian of the Asphalt  by Peter Jeary

Will you join Harold in his crusade against this modern motoring menace?

It’s early evening, “somewhere between the soaps and the cereals”. In a municipal room, where health and safety concerns take on outlandish proportions, Harold seeks to engage like-minded individuals in his campaign to make town councils face up to their responsibilities. This observational comedy is tinged with absurdity and features an extensive exposition of the benefits totalitarian rule.

Mad Apple Collective present four brand-new one-act plays about what can happen in a locked room; who’s in there, why are they there and do they make it out? Expect the best in new writing as ACANTEEN and Mad Apple Collective hook up again to push the new writing agenda in the heart of Essex!

Tickets go on sale in summer 2017.
